Australian designer Christina Saenz de Santamaria has completed the 5 executive tropical villas of Casas del Sol in Koh Tao, Thailand. The 5 villas are,

• Villa of a Million Stars
• Villa of Green Palms
• Villa of the Blue Sea
• Villa of the Full Moon
• Villa of the Rising Sun

The primary goal of Casas del Sol is to offer a refreshing new definition of the luxury beach bungalow experience. The fundamental design of the villas was inspired by the tropical climate of Thailand that blends both the indoor and outdoor environments together with the use of an outdoor terrace that integrates with the indoor open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas. Natural ventilation was an important element for cooling in the tropical heat with high ceilings, windows and large terrace doors.

A major style influence was the Mediterranean culture due to villa ownership from Spain. The crisp white walls and use of polished concrete is a direct echo of the modernised fincas of the Spanish Balearic Islands. However care was taken to incorporate local Thai elements such as native timber details and products.

Given that Koh Tao is a holiday destination, relaxation areas were given significant consideration with oversized cushion-filled day beds. And the use of moulded polished concrete elements, such as the day-bed base, bed base, kitchen and bathroom areas facilitate easy cleaning and maintenance for the holiday rental villas.
