Competition entry: Ullswater Yacht Club \ PARKDESIGNED

• August 18, 2012

This design was fora new clubhouse at Ullswater Yacht club, it was a design competition run by the RIBA. The concept reflects the calmness and fluidity of the lake in its shape, in particular in its cross section, suggesting a strong reference to the curve of a boat or yacht’s hull. Modern boat construction methods and materials were proposed in the construction of the clubhousewith the building designed to rest on stilts above the lake. This proposal provided protection against frequent site flooding issues and offered the occupants a feeling that the building is floating on the water. In order to maximise the stunning views fully glazed lakeside elevations were proposed. The building provides new function space, administration offices, café, changing facilities and a floating mooring jetty.
